Sexism

Examples of sexism in the ancient world include written laws preventing women from participating in the political process

Heterosexism

discrimination or prejudice against homosexuals on the assumption that heterosexuality is the normal sexual orientation.


Examples: in the United States include the continuing ban against lesbian and gay military personnel; widespread lack of legal protection from antigay discrimination in employment, housing, and services

Racism

prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.



Examples: denying services like help based on color

Ableism

discrimination in favor of able-bodied people.



Example: Failing to provide accessibility beyond wheelchair ramps. Assuming disability is always visible

Classism

prejudice against or in favor of people belonging to a particular social class.



Examples: The stereotypes, opinions, and beliefs we have about people in certain social classes are examples of individual classism. For example, a person who believes herself superior to poor or disadvantaged people is an example of individual classism.

Anti-Semitism

hostility to, prejudice, or discrimination against Jews.


Examples: the holocaust

Ageism

prejudice or discrimination on the basis of a person's age.


Examples: Ageism includes stereotypes, myths, outright disdain and dislike, avoidance of contact, and discrimination in housing, employment, and services of many kinds.
