What is the difference between a society and an academy?
- Society: a group interested in a specific area of veterinary medicine (ANYONE can join)
- Academy: a group receiving recognition as a specialty (must pass a series of tests/standards to get in)
How does one go about getting into an academy?
Must take a test, but to even qualify to take the test they must:
- Work 75% of their job in the specialty they're interested in
- Document 50 cases they worked on in that specialty
- Attend 40 hours of continuing education lectures on the specialty
