How did the Communists change Equality, family and the role of women?


- sex should be as natural as drinking water (free love!)



- free women from drudgery of married life by providing crèches and kindergartens



- Marriage and divorce made easy



- Abortion was available on demand




NOTE many did not agree with these changes but women gained more equality in the workplace



How did the Communists change Religion?


- saw it as a trick to make people accept horrible conditions on earth in hope of a better afterlife



- forbidden to preach to children under 15



- some churches taken over and priests exiled

- building schools and making sure children got adequate food



- Young Communist League to encourage growth of communist ideas

How did the Communist change ideas?


- explained their new ideas through propaganda and agitation (on ‘agitprop’ trains)



- to encourage Russians to see what they were working for in the future



- posters, pamphlets, theatre groups



- many people say their first films on the ‘agitrop’ train






How and when did Lenin die?


- Died January 1924, aged 53




- brain had shrunk to half normal size. He had suffered several strokes since 1922 having been overwhelmed by the long hours he had worked after the Revolution.
