After war: Social situation
-War had deepened the divisions
-The women that had worked during the war were now seen as damaging traditional family values
Threat from the Left
-Communist parties
-Wanted Germany to be rulled by workers' councils or soviets
-Staged many revolutions but all were unsuccessful and the leaders of the Spartacists were murdered

-Wanted the Kaiser's dictatorship government back in power
-Wanted Germany to have a strong army, expand its territories and have an empire
Problems of The Weimar
-Could not get a clear majority in the government
-Article 48 giving emergency powers to the Chancellor
-Nazis and the Communists numbers were rising
-The numerous loans overseas made Germany vulnerable
Economic Disaster
-Came about because of the Treaty of Versailles
-Sent the German currency into hyperinflation. People who had had fortunes in the bank woke up to having just enough to buy bread
-The French invaded the Ruhr

-1919 the Spartacists launch their bid for power and a fight between them and the Freikorps ensued
-1920 there was more communist agitation in the Ruhr area
