The Great Railroad Strike:
reason for this was because they cut 10% from workers salary and give it to stock holders. uprising that spread through Chicago, St Louis, and San Fransisco. 100 000 workers left their jobs within few days which led to 500 000 joining them. Violence erupted as workers were shot and costly damage was done to the railroads. Even though this strike was unorganized it scared upper classes and authorities.
The Knights of Labor:
Mass organization of Americas working class founded by Uriah Stephens. This organization was composed of workers from the common laborers to master craftsmen. Became dominant force in labor during the 1880s.

Embraced reforms including public ownership of railroads, income tax, equal pay for women, and abolition of child labor.
Samuel Gompers/ The AF of L:
Gompers founded the AF of L which coordinated the activities of craft unions throughout the US.

Its two main goals were to organize skilled workers and to use strikes to gain objectives such as higher pay.

Even though the AFL lessened in numbers compared to the knights, events soon brought down the knights and the AFL took over.
Haymarket Affair:
No more then 3000 people gathered and after the meeting, a few 300 people were left. Bonfield marched into the crowd with his men and demanded them to leave, someone threw a bomb into the police ranks which led to the police firing. In court, 8 men went on trial but in the end captain Bonfield was blamed for the death of the innocents.
Coney Island:
Became a pleasure resort which later developed amusement parks. Attracted visitors to its beaches, dances, and penny arcade. It advertized as “ten hours of fun for ten cents.”
