commonly used in formulas to harmonize all the herbs, sp xi xu, clear heat and detox, guide to 12 channels, moderates harsh herbs, antidote for poison, soothes spasms, cautions: not for use on pt w/ damp, nausea or vomit, on of the 18 incompatibles, prolonged use can cause hypertension, edema, reduction in thyroid activity, large doses can produce sodium / potassium imbalance.
