Arab american

man head of household, loud voices and intense eye contact, touch is only permitted with people of same gender, fast during Ramadan, want same sex health care provider, illness is seen as punishment.

A cultural assessment should include...

determination of the patient's ethnic and racial origin, the patients language of origin, and racial origin, who the decision maker for the family is and if there is a preference in gender of the health care worker

difficulties with English, lack of health ins, knowledge deficit, reluctance to question health provider and adherence to old cultural practices.
