Green Algae: Ulvophyceae
Monophyletic group, 4000 speicies, unicellular to multicellular. Inhabits ocean coastlines (Ulva, the sea lettuce, ex) & species that inhabit plankton of freshwater lakes and streams.
Reproduction: Asexual: spores swim with aid of flagella. Sexual: production of a resting stage (dormant in winter). In many species, gametes are neither eggs nor sperm (same size and shape). Gametes shed into water, fertilization away from parents.
Life Cycle: Unicellular are haploid, only diploid as zygote. Multicellular: alt of gens
Human/Eco Impact: Producers in freshwater environments and coastal areas of ocean.
