In dead space, oxygen is around 150mmHg and CO2 is around 1 mmHg.
In alveoli, oxygen is around 105 mmHg and CO2 is around 40 mmHg.
In blood, oxygen is 40 mmHg and CO2 is 46 mmHg.
What causes the systemic arterial blood to have slightly less oxygen pressure than the pulmonary capillaries?
Pulmonary capillaries are mixed with shunted blood that has not been oxygenated, thus lowering the oxygen content sent out to the arterial system.

Capacity= maximum amount of oxygen that the blood can carry.
Saturation= % of hemoglobin that is saturated with oxygen.
What can shift the oxygen-hemoglobin curve to the left? To the right?
Left shift- decreased temp, PCO2, 2-3 DPG, increased pH.
Right shift- increased temp, PCO2, 2-3 DPG, decreased pH.
How do anemia and CO poisoning affect the oxygen-hemoglobin curve?
Anemia and CO poisoning shift the curve down.
