Homeostasis
The state of dynamic equilibrium of the internal environment of the body; the body wants to stay in balance
What does Homeostasis depend on?
It depends of many processes in the body that regulate fluid intake and output and the movement of water and dissolved substances between body compartments
What processes can disturb Homeostasis?
Illness
Weather
Vigorous excercise
Therapeutic measures, i.e. diurectics, medications, and surgeries
Functions of Water
Medium for metabolic reactions within cells
transport medium
lubricant
insulator and shock absorber
maintainance and regulation of boby temperature
Amount (percentage) of fluid in body can effect

What is the distribution of ICF in the body?
Intracellular( ICF): approx. 2/3 the total body fluid.
Why is IC fluid vital to the body?
It is vital for cell function. It provides medium in which metabolic processes take place (major IC electrolyte = Potassium(K)
