10 - 15 mg/kg of a 10 percent solution

Pediatric: Same as adult
Calcium Chloride

Drug Action:
Increases myocardial contractile force and ventricular automaticity

Aids in the re-entry of calcium into muscle when given for calcium channel blocker or magnesium sulfate toxicity.

Balances hyperkalemia
Calcium Chloride

Indications:
Calcium channel blocker toxicity
Beta blocker toxicity
Magnesium sulfate toxicity
Hyperkalemic cardiac arrest associated with renal failure, methanol ingestion, aspirin, or cyclic anti-depresant overdose. DKA.
Calcium Chloride

Precautions:
Incompatible with all medications, especially sodium bicarbonate. Flush tubing well between drugs.

Assure IV patency; refer to drug administration principles
Notify BioTel prior to administration if patient is on Digitalis preparation.

Side Effects
Tissue necrosis with infiltration
Forms precipitate when given with sodium bicarbonate.
Causes Digitalis toxicity if administered to pts on Digitalis.
With rapid infusion or overdose; Bradycardia, hypotension, and asystole.
