How does tissue structure determine function?

hollow tube formed from tubulin dimers. Alpha-tubulin and beta-tubulin make a tubulin dimer. Mostly maintain cell shape

a double helix of actin monomers. Made up of actin proteins.

a strong fiber composed of intermediate filament proteins. Mainly used for mechanical support.

How are microtubules/filaments dynamic?

You can add more sub-units to one end and you can take away from the other end. It’s not a hard fast structure it can change.

Myosin undergoes a conformational change, sliding actin filaments relative to myosin. The result is a shortening of the muscle cell.

They are arranged in a 9+2 arrangement. Around the outside there are 9 pairs of 2 and in the center there is a group of 2. Figure 10-13 The Dynein arms slide along the tubules

How is actin involved in moving a cell such as an amoeba forward?



The actin microfilaments grow and push it forward. They form a lamellipodium with branching microfilaments. At the back of the cell the actin just grabs and pulls them forward.
