Hydrostatic weighing |
Happens underwater at fancy colleges. The best one. Submerged in water, measures water displacement vs weight at the bottom scale. Very expensive. |
Bod pod/pea pod |
Egg shaped chamber measures air displacement in chamber when person sits down. Need to know air displacement and body weight. Works good but pricey. |
Obese clients |
Should only be measured with bmi and girth |
Skinfold caliper |
Using calipers to pinch certain areas. 50% body fat is right below the skin. Does not work for super skinny or obese. At least three pinch sites. Not that accurate |
Shoulder push stabilization screen |
Movement screen. Push ups performed to full extension. Look for scapular winging or lumbar hyperextension. Winging caused by: parascapular muscle; serratus anterior, trap, levator scapula, rhomboids. Not keeping scapulae against rib cage. Or flat thoracic spine. Hyperextension caused by lack of core abdominal/low back strength. |
Thoracic spine mobility screen |
Mobility test: client sits upright on seat with feet pressed together planted on ground. Block between knees. Squeeze block to immobilize hips. Gently rotate right and left |
Passive straight leg raise |
Flexibility screen. All about the hammies. You were flexible here. Plantar flex toes to take out the calf. TRAINER raises the leg. When you feel pressure from low back you stop raising. |
