Art

Hold one hand flat, fingertips pointing upwards, palm sideways. With thumb of other hand extended from fist, slide thumb tip in a wavy line downwards from fingertips to wrist of flat hand.

Idea

With pointer finger only extended from fist, touch temple with pointer fingertip. Then hook pointer finger as you bring is sideways away from head. Keep wrist reasonably still, pivoting hand at wrist. Can be done without hooking finger.Hint: I have pulled an idea from my head.

Plan / arrangements / design

Ok handshapes pinching downward. Move hands forward and outward in alternating movements. As if manipulating chess pieces.

Make

Bounce base of fist onto top of other fist and move it up to the side.

Paper

Start with both fists in front of stomach, knuckles slightly apart, thumbs at tops of fists. Tap knuckles together twice.

Pen

Hold pointer fingertip to the tip of thumb, with palm forward and wiggle hand horizontal in front of chest.


Hint: writing across air in front of self.


Alternatively write sideways or forwards across flat side ways upward facing hand.

Pencil

Form a circle with pointer finger and thumb. Starting with fingertips of circle in front of mouth, bring hand down, up and down again.

Draw/sketch/drawing

Hold one hand flat, fingertips pointing up and palm sideways in front of chest. With the pointer and middle fingers of your other hand extended together from fist, and bent slightly, bring fingers down the flat palm in a wavy line.

Paint (small brush connotation) / Painting / Artist

Hold one hand flat, fingertips pointing up and palm sideways in front of chest. With the pointer and middle fingers of your other hand extended together from fist, and bent slightly, bring fingers down the flat palm wiping with underside of fingertips toward oneself, then wiping with back of fingertips away from self, making a downward zigzag. Alternatively, just wiggle fingers as the move down other hand.

Paint (large brush connotation)

Hold palm up in front of yourself pointing away with fingers together. Stroke front of fingertips of other hand backward along upward facing hand, then back of fingertips forward along it, repeat.


Can be done on palm pointing up and facing self on the side or facing sideways.

Papier mache

Sign for paper by tapping punching knuckes together with palms facing self. Then mime scrunching a handball sized ball twice with both hands, rotating wrists in alternate directions for each scrunch.

Build

With both hands flat, palms down, move each hand upwards alternatively in a stepping motion



Usage Notes: Also used to sign 'develop'.

Sew (by hand)

Make a b shape with palms down and pointing forward, circle main hand upward and away then back as if sewing.

Sew (sewing machine)

Both hands flat, pointing forward, with thumbs tucked underneath. Dip hands down then forward twice, as if feeding material through the sewing machine, or doing a hula dance forward.

Knit

Hold the pointer finger of other hand still, pointing forward, palm sideways. Starting with pointer fingertip of main hand just above other fingertip at right angles, move finger so that it twists palm to face up and slides perpenficular along lower finger.

Story (written connotation) / document / information / calendar / menu

With right hand flat at chest height, palm facing you; slide back of other hand down the flat hand perpendicular and toward self.

Sign story. A story told by sign.

Rotate spread, across-facing hands in alternating forward circles.

Book

Flat hands with sides together, as if the covers of a book, open and close

Sculpt (clay connotation)

Good handshapes. Meet thumbs in middle pointing at each other. Curve position of hands out and in while descending in 3 semi-circles, to outline a statue of 3 round lumps.
