Advocate

Social workers champion the rights of other with the goal of empowering the client. Social workers speak on behalf of the client when others will not listen or the client is unable to speak.

Broker

Responsible for identifying, locating, and linking client systems to needed resources in a timely fashion. The social worker then assists the client in choosing the most appropriate service option.

Change Agent

Participates as part of a group or organization seeking to improve an aspect of the service. They use the problem solving model to identify the problem and plan for change.

Counseor

Focuses on improving social functioning. They help clients articulate their needs, clarify their problems, explore resolution strategies, apply interventions. Key role: to empower clients by affirming their strengths and their capacity to deal with the problems more effectively.

Mediator

Will intervene in disputes between parties to help them find compromise, reconcile differences, and reach mutually satisfying agreements. The mediator takes a neutral stance among the involved parties.
