Epidermis

Most superficial layer of the skin

Dermis

"True skin" is the inner layer of skin, that contains blood and lymph vessels, hair follicles, and glands.

Subcutaneous Layer

"Hypodermis" is the lowermost layer of skin, and includes cells such as adipose cells, blood vessels, and nerves.

Hair

Or pili, are flexible strands produced by hair follicles. Hair helps to protect us from insects, heat loss, physical trauma, sunlight, and can act as a filter.

Nails

A scalelike modification of the epidermis that forms a clear protective covering on the dorsal surface of a finger or toe. Nails are used to scratch or pick up small objects.

Sweat Glands

Or sudoriferous glands, are distributed over thye entire skin surface.

Sebaceous Glands

Secrete oily waxy matter called sebum to lubricate and waterproof the skin.
