Cornea (2)
1. Transparent membrane that is nearly circular
2. Outer shallow groove at it's periphery and juncture with the sclera is called external scleral sulcus
External scleral sulcus (1)
-is the outer shallow groove that can be seen at the periphery of the cornea at its juncture with the sclera
Conjunctiva (2)
1. is a smooth, shinny, movable tissue covering the anterior surface of the sclera
2. it also lines the inner surfaces of the eyelid
Limbus (2)
1. is an area that extends from the surface through the layers of cornea, conjunctiva, and sclera
2. is the transition area containing the transitional layers b/t the transparent cornea and the conjunctiva and the white, opaque sclera
Optic nerve (1)
1. in bovine it is encircled by a thick, readily identifiable mass of pink muscle tissue, retractor bulbi muscle
Equator of the eye (1)
-separates the eye into anterior and posterior portions
Choroid (1)
1. a dark tissue layer which is just inner to the sclera
Vitreous (2)
1. transparent jelly in the center of the eye
2. is enclosed in a membrane-type of envelope
Lens (2)
1. transparent structure composed of lens capsule and nucleus
2. is attached to either/both the vitreous of to the anterior segment
Lens capsule (1)
1. the outer membrane of the lens composed of lens fibers (like and onion)
Retina (2)
1. posterior portion of the eyeball that is a very thin, transparent membrane
.2. may have some blood vessels
Optic disc or optic nerve head
(5)
1. on the nasal side of posterior pole
2. small pale spot
3. location at which the nerve fibers and the central retinal vein leave the eye
4. where the central retinal artery enters the eye
5. retina and choroid are firmly attached around its edges
Iris (2)
1. is a circular muscular diaphragm
2. upon contraction, changes the size of the pupil
Pupil (1)
-is round in the human eye
Anterior chamber (1)
1. is the space located b/t the iris and the cornea
Ciliary body (3)
1. lies posterior to and surrounds the iris
2. contains smooth muscle that contracts during accommodation causing the lens to focus at near
3. structure that manufactures the aqueous humor
Iris root (1)
1. the portion of the iris which attaches to the ciliary body
Ora serrata (2)
1. scalloped area where the ciliary body ends
2. the line that marks the anterior termination of the retina and choroid
Pars plicata (2)
1. the anterior 1/2 of the ciliary body
2. contains 60-70 projecting ridges called ciliary processes
Ciliary processes (1)
1. about 60-70 ridges that are contained in the pars plicata
Pars plana (2)
1. the more posterior part of the ciliary body
2. is a circle of smooth, flat tissue
Uvea (parts)
1. composed of the choroid, ciliary body and iris
Anterior chamber (2)
1. the juncture where the cornea is attached to the uvea
2. the location for the exit of the aqueous humor
