Recreational Therapy Benefits

Therefore I would recommend this activity for other recreational therapy students too do. For a recreational therapist you learn about many different setting to work in. But you would not truly know which one fits your needs until you see it first hand. For a recreation therapy student will not truly know what is ahead of them, until they go on a tour of their desired setting or for shadows a recreation therapist. By going on visits to facilities, it can help students get an inside look and information for where they want to work after graduation. For example it has helped me learn if I really want to work in a prison.

From these videos I have learned about many different social work practice areas that I never knew about. For instance, Human Trafficking is one practice area that I have never really heard of before and it was interesting to hear how the case managers help the victims of human trafficking basically get their life back together. I learned that they help the victims get a new ID, social security card, and etc. since many of them probably lost theirs in the process, and besides those things the case managers help them do a lot more as well become a mentor somewhat to the victims. I also learned a little bit more about the VA social work practice field and learned that to work in this field you have to really understand PTSD since a lot of veterans struggle with that because of their experience in the war and also it is really important to just know about military culture.…

While I was at my tour at the William George Agency, I have learned three new things that were related to juveniles. The first thing that I learned on the tour was that the juveniles there on the campus are allowed to participate in athletic sport competitions against other high schools around them, even one of the schools they compete against is a school that’s in my home town. The Impact of the lesson for me was that, knowing the kids from William George school were allowed to play in competitive games against other schools, it gave them a chance to have fun and explore in something new that could possibly grow on them as a new interest that could then pursue them on setting future goals, because I am a firm believer of sports being a gateway…
