Before beginning any type of treatment there is a four step planning process that needs to be accessed. First, set priorities following examination of the client 's needs. Second, formulation of goals and general objectives, thirdly, determining strategies. Lastly, selecting the proper methods for that particular client, notify that this will vary as the client varies. Depending on the client’s particular complication many forms of rehabilitation can be used through several different programs, such as; arts, sports, music, outdoor activities, even various classes can help (DRM genesis). Depending on the client 's interest and their impairments that will help determine what rehabilitation activity with help them improve. There are several areas that can be benefited through therapeutic recreation those being; physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and overall general benefits to their well being. Having a secure mental state is one of the most important goals of both the therapeutic rec and the client. When the client has a positive mentality it will result in a much better state of mind after the recovery and will also result in a quicker recovery. There are many emotional benefits of therapeutic recreation, those specifically being the reduction of stress, and depression (DRM genesis). With the decrease levels of stress and depression it will hopefully lead to an improved level of self esteem, and prove that their life has meaning. Which then typically leads to setting and achieving new life goals. In addition to it improving your emotional state, but it then leads to helping improve your cognitive state. One’s cognitive state is based on their mental ability, the main one being improving the client 's mental alertness and attention span. This is extremely important in today’s society as these skills will help you with problem solvings, organizational skills, and the overall development of new skills.
