Last summer, I attended governor's school west where three hundred and twenty-five bright and open-minded students from all across North Carolina gathered for five and a half weeks in a college campus setting. To me, this was a big milestone in life that changed me for the better. We left our cozy lives of families and friends to start with a clean slate with strangers we’ve never seen in our lives. At first, we thought of it as a sacrifice of our summer to glamorize our college application, but throughout the program we experienced things that exceeded beyond our expectations. No one could have guessed that Governor's School would be filled with breaktaking moments that made us embrace our individuality. During my experience, I developed multiple skills that positively impacted my responsibility, perspective, and ambitions.
On the first day of Governor’s School, I was overwhelmed with the new surroundings such as living in dorms which was a challenge that I had to face. There was never a dull moment due to the wide range of diversity, talent, and personalities of students. I made amazing lifelong friends that appreciated my presence, ideas, and personality. The entire student body participated in deep discussions over a wide range of topics including beliefs, injustice, and conflicts in our society. Everyone treated other’s contributions with respect and consideration of their ideas and views. Each discussion and activity opened my eyes to recognize meaningful things that society normally overlooked. Most importantly, I learned that the consideration of different viewpoints can greatly benefit any
