At the bank, our group would identify with being a formal, command group as we report to a manager and have similar work goals set by our organization There is a clear understanding of the norms for our workplace and we have all conformed to them for the best functioning of our group and organization. There is also an awareness of role identity and role expectations within the group. Typically, the behavior of the group is good and positively affects the organization on a daily basis. However, there are some issues that arise within our group that have a negative impact on behavior.

I believe my manager to have high emotional intelligence and that directly affects the functioning and performance of our organization. She is very good at picking up on each of our emotions in regards to different situations and that gives her an advantage in dealing with the situation and her employees accordingly; because she is so aware of her own, she is able to tune into ours easily. For example, if I have a bad customer evaluation report come back to me, I tend to have a negative reaction and my mood will change for the worse, making a toxic environment. Because my manager is able to relate to my emotions she is able to react appropriately to help me stay on track and maintain a healthy work environment. Often, she will use positive reinforcement techniques or other equally beneficial techniques to help me learn to control my emotions and handle social interactions well so that my mood does not negatively impact the work environment. Social loafing tends to challenge the idea of covenant, but there are other factors that we display that do give us the sense of being a covenant. There is a common purpose between us displaying mutual accountability as well as sharing of power that refers back to federalism (Fischer, 2015). Our leadership also helps us maintain as a “team” by healthy and sufficient conflict resolution and encouragement. There are struggles within every organization and here I am reminded of Romans 12:10-11, “10 Be devoted to one another with brotherly love; prefer one another in honor, 11 do not be lazy in diligence, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.” This reminds me that it is imperative to remember that what is most important is our relationships with one another in worship. It might be hard to always love our brother, especially while picking up his slack at work, but it is that that is most important; loving one another and loving Christ,
