The gut wrenching case of the trouble with Evan. This case was everyone heart broken. The Trouble with Evan is a two-hour documentary on the Fifth Estate. It shows how much harm can be done to a child by the people who love him the most. For a few weeks, cameras were placed around the home of a family in Hamilton, Ontario. An 11-year-old boy has been causing problems for the family since he was a young child. The cameras capture the troubling, abusive and sometimes loving family relationship. Evan is a violent 11 year old, who steals from his parents, smokes cigarettes and drinks alcohol. Cameras finally revealed that Evan’s problems had a lot to do with the troubled lives of his parents. While Evan’s family was supposed to teach him how to behave and how to act in society, instead of doing that, they decided to teach him how to take and absorb abuse. The family looks normal from the outside, but from the inside is where all the real things happen. To start off with the main issues in the abuse and the family, the main issue in this family was Evans mother Karen. Karen was a caring mother, all she wanted was to take care of her children, but instead she abused them. Then there's Michael/mike, Mike is Karen’s husband and Evan’s stepfather. Mike and Karen also have a daughter together and her name is Kimberly. At the beginning of Mike and Karens marriage, Karen was getting abused by Mike so she left Mike and she went to Mexico for 6 months, leaving her two kids with Mike and Mike then got full custody of both kids (Docherty, 2012). The issues in the house that caused the abuse was because while Mike was growing up, his father showed love and affection toward him and that became a norm in Mike’s life. So due to the fact that Mike has never shown the same gender affection he does not know how to show it to Evan because he has never experienced
