“Earth is losing mammal species 20 to 100 times the rate of the past. Extinctions are happening so fast, they could rival the event that killed the dinosaurs in as little as 250 years.” Scientists are in agreement, we are teetering on the sixth mass extinction and humans are the cause of this round. Between the destruction of forests, pollution of the ocean and freshwater sources alike, over hunting, over fishing, and mass amounts of CO2 produced by the human population we are literally destroying the earth that sustains us.
If we keep at the current pace we are going to ultimately destroy ourselves. Changes are slowly happening to counteract this damage, however. People have taken an interest in solar and wind power and conservation

When people travel by sea to new exotic destinations they take with them fungus not indigenous to their destination. According to Elizabeth Kolbert of Scholastic Current Events, foreign fungus is the reason many South American amphibians have gone extinct. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, world travel displaces animals. This becomes a problem when the foreign species takes over the new habitat killing off all the locals until they become extinct. Human travel also produces an immense amount of Carbon Dioxide. According to the EPA “.Human activities are altering the carbon cycle—both by adding more CO2 to the atmosphere and by influencing the ability of natural sinks, like forests, to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. While CO2 emissions come from a variety of natural sources, human-related emissions are responsible for the increase that has occurred in the atmosphere since the industrial revolution.” These extinctions are not caused by Darwin’s principal. These losses are caused by humans and it’s the responsibility of the people to use all available tools to rectify the loss and prevent future damage; Including, but not limited to …show more content…
In today 's society, endangered species are hunted for sport where they money is supposed to be filtered back to conservation. Humans also do some pretty horrific things to animals in the scientific world, especially when cosmetic testing is taken into consideration. The ethical line is already skewed, but the difference between cosmetic testing in cosmetics and cloning is the intent. Cloning offers to do more good than harm if treated with the respect an endeavor such as this deserves.
Unfortunately, there are no guarantees cloning will solve the world 's problems. There is always the possibility that overpopulation will occur, the reintroduced species will have a detrimental effects on newly evolved plant life, or some other potential unforeseen consequences will arise from de-extinction and cloning. There’s also the possibility that humanity can restore what was stolen from the fragile ecosystem on
