¨The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn¨ by Mark Twain. This book is about a boy named Huckleberry Finn and a slave named Jim. They use a raft and travel down the Mississippi River. Huck and Jim travel down the river to find the free state of Cairo. In their adventures they meet a lot of people like the King and the Duke who are tricksters who sold Jim. Huck know he was alone and no match for these tricksters , so he secretly escaped, went to Phelps farm to save Jim. Huck tries to rescue Jim. After Huck and Jim ran away, the Phelps find them, and use a gun to prevent them from escaping. By the end of the book the reader learns that the original owner Ms.Watson had freed Jim, Huck is very happy about that, because Huck knows that is what Jim wants, and Huck helps Jim realize his dream. Huck and Jim develop a strong relationship throughout their adventures. Their relationship helps Huck to finally end his indecision about whether to turn Jim back into being a slave and it also allowed Huck to decide what he felt about slavery. When Huck and Jim first meet, Huck asks Jim for help, even though Jim is a slaves, In chapter 4 Huck goes outside and notices that “ There was a cross in the left bootheel made with big nails, to keep off the devil.” (Twain 12). Huck see that this is his father’s footprint and he is scared. Huck goes and finds Jim to ask Jim, “What I wanted to know was, what he was going to do? and was he going to stay?” (Twain 13).
