Clearly, all of drugs are addictive and unfortunately are not hard to find. “I was addicted for seven years, I was getting them from my friends, well who I thought were friends, and now after rehab I can’t see them anymore,” said Stashak (Stashak 2014). Like Stashak, many people purchase these drugs off of their “friends” who are prescribed by a doctor or get them from someone else. For some people they receive them right from their physicians. “Illegal acquisition of prescription drugs for personal use or profit” is known as pharmaceutical diversion or prescription drug fraud (“Center for Problem”). Doctors may distribute prescriptions to people who don’t need them for money, but also pharmacies are involved in this as well. Some pharmacist or other health care providers simply steal the pills because of their open access to them (“Center for Problem”). Prescription drug fraud can take many forms, which include: forging or altering a prescription and phoning in fraudulent prescriptions posing as a doctor’s employee (“Center for Problem”). Many patients steal prescription pads and write themselves the prescribed drug. Drugs do not magically appear, they are made by pharmaceutical scientist and prescribed by doctors. They are people in the medical field who are doing the opposite of what they are supposed to be doing, which is to keep people healthy.
