Eight years before, in 2002, the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights already stated that “The human right to water is indispensable for leading a life in human dignity. It is a prerequisite for the realization of other human rights”.
The TajWSS project, which started in 2010, sought to improve the coverage and service delivery of water supply for rural communities through changes in policy and practice of water management and governance in Tajikistan, a country where 40% of the population had no access to drinking water. Funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the TajWSS project has been implemented by Oxfam in partnership with the Government of Tajikistan (GoT) the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Oxfam first important step in the project was to promote a constructive dialogue among citizens, service providers and public officials, contributing to the institutional and policy reform in Tajikistan, enhancing the collaboration of the stakeholders and providing access to drinking water supply to the population.
