I decided to do my job shadowing experience at my local vet clinic, Mille Lacs Veterinary Clinic in Foley. I am on an alternating schedule, with one week being at the large animal clinic and the other at the small animal clinic. They showed me around the two places and got me used to their day-to-day basis with surgeries in the morning and appointments in the afternoon. I started my experience in the large animal clinic and focused the first few hours watching the veterinarian technicians work on paperwork on cloggins; the rest of the time I spent learning how to set up a fecal sample to look at parasites through a microscope from sheep. I do believe that putting the animals down will be the hardest thing and not to cry, because I am emotional when it comes to animals dying. The final question that I asked was the setting and duties of a normal day. One day is never the same as the next. There could be slow days filled with paperwork or busy days with surgeries and appointments right after each other. Different situations come in each day and sometimes you learn something new. The best part about a small clinic is having a tight relationship with your coworkers.
