Intercultural competence is the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with people of other cultures. I would rate myself as having a level 2 (limited working competence). I interact with a range of people while working at enrollment services. I often try to avoid taboo subjects when dealing with others, however if they start talking about it, I feel that lending an ear appears as empathetic. Working to improves to different levels of intercultural competence has always been one of my goals. I usually interact with people of different cultures outside of work as well.
