Since I was born, New York City has been my life, my blood, and bones; I have grown and lived with many different people with different backgrounds. My neighborhoods have shaped me into who I am today, I am flexible and open, like raw clay, enough to be changed and formed. Then there is the Bronx, a borough of New York, where you have to be strong, or you will not survive, a place where all races are together, and everyone is noisy. I live in a community where there are mostly Hispanics, and where there are always car passing by and honking, during the day it is the only sound you can here, and ear-piercing bird calls, but during the night there is always some kind of party, either that or just really loud music. I have grown to get use…

He doesn't want Tomkey kids to have any candy because they went to the boat house for halloween instead of Trick or Treating. Many people from my hometown use the phrase, “Everything is greater in Decatur.” Decatur, GA is where I was born and raised and has been an integral part in shaping me into the young lady I am today and the woman I am becoming. Members of my family and my community have gone on to do great things outside of this city, which has provided solid proof that there are more great opportunities outside of Decatur, GA. People have left to become educators who are now teaching, guiding, and delivering necessary tools for individuals to be successful; lawmakers who are developing plans and policies to create a well-balanced and structured society; professional athletes who are working diligently to study and perfect their craft, and many other professions.…

We are a country founded on doing things yourself and not relying on others to do them for you, being self-reliant is one of the biggest things that they believed in. He talks about being willing to work for the things you need and not relying on the rich or the government to take care of you. In a society where the citizens believe a group effort throughout daily life is best, chaos and loss of individuality often, and almost always occur. When there is individuality present, people are able to express their singular beliefs and ideas, which leads to success and prosperity, which could not be attained without said individuality. In both The Walking Dead and Harrison Bergeron, the presence of individual dependence is shown in more than one way, this is more superior to group equality, as when you try to make everyone equal, in perspective nobody is equal. The Presence of singular control, or individuality is more superior than the total undeniable equality of everyone.…

Individuality is the greatest threat to a utopian society, if one person doesn’t like the way the leader is running the show, then why should you continue to follow their lead? This is the problem I tackled in my final project, as I produced a seminar that was telling students from a fictional institution how to run their utopian societies in a way where they could eliminate or control individuality. Of course their are many different ways to see a utopian society, sometimes it is optimistic, Where To Invade Next (2015) while others are much darker, 1984 (1984). I quickly decided to ignore the optimistic utopian societies, since many times the citizens are the rulers. Instead I focused on the utopian societies that were completely controlling…

Undeniably, “Schoolsville” by Billy Collins is written to show the connection between school and life. In fact, the poem is about a man who has taught a numerous amount of students and he discusses how in reality there is not much of a difference between them in school and how they would be in life afterwards. The first stanza reads, “Glancing over my shoulder at the past, I realize the number of students I have taught is enough to populate a small town.” This stanza is telling us that this narrator is a teacher, and he is reflecting into the past about his students, and how he has had enough to fill up a “small town.” The next stanza is comparing the classroom to the new town.…

The positive side of this individuality involves cooperations with other people and the idea that everyone is equal and we will help each other accomplish these goals so we can all be successful. Therefore that means that the negative side involves not helping each other but most importantly competition. For example is someone is better then someone else at a specific thing and they don't help the other achieve the same level of success then that's evil. After we take a moment to closely look at this we can see that the the negative side of individualism is the same concept of Social Darwinism.…
