Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Vignette #3 Beck, who is the person described in vignette three, is a 21-year-old senior in college who is pursuing a major in physics. They are a persistent worrier and state they worry about things such as family members getting hurt or that they will get into some kind of accident or bad situation. They have never had any of these bad or harmful incidents occur, but they feel that they constantly feel the need to worry about these things which causes their sleep to suffer, often having trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. They have been diagnosed by a professional with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or GAD. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is a disorder in which a person has a constant state of worry that can be nonproportionate or overexaggerated to situations. This disorder can be extreme thoughts that can range from impulsive thoughts about how someone can be hurt, or fears of rejection. This disorder is marked as uncontrollable worry, a tendency to repeat worries instead of finding solutions to problems and negative thoughts and images regarding life (“Cognitive and behavioral.”, 2022). Behaviors of Beck include a constant state of worry that is exaggerated to the situation, lack of sleep or insomnia. These fit into diagnosable criteria because these are some of the few criteria listed in the DSM-5 (2013). These behaviors fit into the criteria of the disorder because these feelings of worry are extreme in nature and are unrealistic to the scenario. For instance, in the vignette, Beck explains that they think about their parents getting sick or getting into an accident, so they call each day to make sure. This is an extreme case of worrying that is linked to people diagnosed with GAD. Though it seems unproblematic to worry about instances like
