Our panel topic is the intersection of eugenics and religion.
Description
The purpose of our presentation is to investigate and discuss the intertwining ideas of science and religion through the lens of prominent European and American religions and eugenics. We will explore this relationship by studying the history, ideology, and processes behind eugenics and its basis within some religions such as Christianity. People do not normally see religion and science as complements, but we will argue that eugenics is essentially the product of marrying a science and religion. Although eugenics is viewed to be a secular form of thought, it has found a following by some protestant denominations. We wish to compare how eugenics works in theory to how it works in practice, and then again, compare how eugenics in practice is similar to a religion.

This will address past widespread instances of eugenics such as the Holocaust. The next subcategory highlights historical religious and non-religious figures that supported Eugenics.
