He got into a fight with a another slave because the slave had insulted him and Equiano got flogged because of it (Chapter 7). When he was eating at Mosa's house the watchmen stopped in because there was a light on, they saw Equiano and said he must come with them because blacks cannot have their lights on after nine o'clock (Chapter 8). There was a rule that said in order for any black freeman to leave the island they must first advertise themself (Chapter 9). White men would steal his goods as he was traveling because he was black and he couldn’t do much about it (Chapter 9). People would make fun of him because of his new beliefs in Christianity (Chapter 11).
I think that it is very important that we read stories like Equiano because it tells us about the past. What it was like, what they did to survive and stay alive and what their beliefs were. Stories like Equiano show us how history was made and what our future could have been like without the freedom we have today. This narrative gives us an overall understanding on how people were treated and it really shows that most slaves were treated like animals. Having stories like this should show the world that no one should or should have ever been treated like they were back
