Materials: Crucible and Lid Crucible tongs Ring Stand Bunsen Burner Pipestem Triangle Wire gauze Ring Clamp 5.68 grams of Sodium Bicarbonate Scoopula Spatula Scale Procedure: First record the mass of a dry empty crucible and lid, and then using the scoopula scoop in some Sodium Bicarbonate, in this experiment there is 5.68g of Sodium bicarbonate …show more content…
Next place the crucible, with the lid on with a small slit, on the triangle above the bunsen burner and light the bunsen burner, and adjust the flame so that the hottest part is directly in contact with the crucible. Next heat the crucible for 7 minutes, and then once the 7 minutes are over turn off the burner and using the tongs place the crucible on a wire gauze to allow it to cool with the lid off. Using the spatula, mix up the heated white powder and take some qualitative observations. Now once the crucible has cooled down, put the crucible and lid on the scale and find the mass. Next Put the crucible back on the Bunsen burner,light it, and then heat it for another 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, like before, turn off the bunsen burner and carefully take the crucible off the triangle using the tongs. And place it on the wire gauze and let the crucible cool, while it’s cooling take the spatula and mix the powder up and make some more observations.
