In todays society, there is not really one school of thought that I consider the most valid. Instead, it is more about recognizing the strengths and limitations of each perspective and finding a balance. In todays Canadian society, there is a growing recognition that a combination of these perspectives is necessary, and I completely agree with that. We need to hold individuals accountable for their actions while also addressing the underlying causes of crime, and to do that, a combination of classical, critical and positivist schools is necessary. The classical perspective, which is more conservative, focuses on individual responsibility, the idea that people choose to commit crimes and believe it is a social disorder (Griffiths, C. It highlights issues like inequality, power imbalance and system injustice. It calls for transformative change in society to address these underlying issues, eliminate the capitalist system and establish a new social order. Each of these schools of thought are valid for their own reasons, and they each have their own benefits and disadvantages.
