The 57 Bus Restorative Justice is a new approach to crime, and it works to address the dehumanization frequently experienced by people in the criminal justice system. Restorative justice is more popular now and it is another way to work toward rehabilitation and lower imprisonment rates. Although some may believe that people old enough to commit a crime should face the full punishment of the crime, others believe that young adults have a better chance at rehabilitation if they go through the restorative justice system. Source D, a 2017 study about Restorative Community Conferencing, says that juveniles that go through the restorative justice system are twenty percent less likely to commit a crime within the next eight months. The restorative justice system is a chance to change before getting stuck in a cycle of poor choices, and this study shows that the restorative justice system is doing a better job than prison at stopping the cycle. Although the system is only effective to 20% of people, it presents as more successful than prison and the percentage could get higher over the years, which is why restorative justice can be better for society long term. In the book, 57 Bus by Slater, it displays how restorative justice can change a person's actions for the better. Richard grew up in a world of violence, but when he met his school guidance counselor he changed as expressed when the author states, “He confided in her about his life, replaying what had happened and explaining how he’d do things differently now. Sometimes he’d tell her about a situation he was struggling with and ask for advice.” Richard is changing for the better after he meets Kaprice because she supports him, sets goals for him, and leads him towards a better future,
