I wake up and walk downstairs and start making my coffee. I switch on the TV to the news channel for the weather and I hear “BREAKING NEWS!” “an ai virus has spread and taken control of everything that has an internet connection; they will turn on you and use anything it has to destroy you. I quickly ran upstairs and found my sister who was sleeping soundly. “Emma wake up, we gotta go,” I say. She yawns and quietly follows me downstairs into the kitchen. I get her some toast and let her eat as I run into all of the rooms and unplug and turn off everything that has an internet connection. We come closer and start to smell some smoke and also food. We knock on the door and shout “anybody here”. Someone opens the door and says “who are you?” Me and Emma jump back in shock. It was another person, too. We reply “we were lost looking for somewhere the virus hasn’t spread”. “Well so are we, come inside” they say. They get us some food and we go off to sleep again. In the morning they all introduce themselves and we start to pack up and go. Now Me, Emma, Carlos, Hope, and David drive through the desert. We see a small hill appear in the distance. We keep driving for several hours. And finally, after 2 whole days of driving, sleeping, eating, and hiding, we finally found home. I sigh as I drive through the city, thinking how just 2 and a half days ago I was making coffee and me and my sister's whole life got flipped upside down.
