The play I went to see is A Midsummer’s Night Dream written by William Shakespeare and directed Peter Wray. The play is performed at Towson University’s mainstage theater located in the Center for the Arts building. The Mainstage Theater is a proscenium style theater. The play focuses on several details like acting, set design and props, custom and makeup, lighting and sound. All these elements put together creates an environment that clearly expresses its story to the audience.
The play starts with the intended marriage of the Duke of Athens Theseus and Hippolyta. The Duke of Athens Theseus and his soon to be wife Hippolyta are taking a stroll chatting about their wedding. Egeus arrives with his beloved daughter Hermia then comes in Lysander and Demetrius. Egeus disregards Lysander because he wants Hermia to marry Demetrius. Theseus agrees with Egeus and tells Hermia she has no choice but to marry Demetrius. Because of this Hermia and Lysander plans to run away and get married. They plan to meet up in the forest. Hermia unable to keep a secret tells Helena of her and Demetrius’s plan to run away. Helena who desperately wants to be love by Demetrius spills the beans and tells him of Hermia and Lysander’s plan. Instead of a shift in Demetrius feelings towards Helena, he becomes angry and goes after the couple.
Then comes in a group of actors that plans to put on a play for Theseus wedding, the play is called Pyramus and Thisbe. The actors assign lines and agree to meet…
