The Red Pony is a book that was written by John Steinbeck. John Steinbeck is an award winning author for his novels and short stories. The Red Pony is one of Steinbeck's books that he wrote based on his life and growing up. Throughout The Red Pony it shows Jody progressing and maturing through the parts of the book. Throughout the 4 parts Jody learns that life and death are connected in many different ways. Jody also undergoes many valuable lessons about life to begin maturing. Progressing to maturity can be a hard thing in life , but we go from one thing to the next getting better each and everyday. Growing up is a big deal with maturing and being bored. An indeduvual grows from kid to almost a preeteen and then to an adult. He/She is going to start exploring and blowing off steam. For example, “Jody felt mean” he “raised his sling’’ Jody aims and shoots. The rock flew dead into it “ and down the little bird went with a broken head”. (Steinbeck,39 ) When you're mad it’s very hard to not try and to hurt something or some one. It also goes for when your bored , you want something to do and , just sitting there and staring into the sky isn't cutting it. In addition, He puts all the slimy animals in his pail “ with his grimy hands”. He takes it to the kitchen for his mom to open and “ gasps with rage”.(Steinbeck 57,59).
