What is the heart
A hollow muscular organ that pumps a circulation of blood through the body by means of contraction. Has 4 hollow chambers
What is the Mediastinum
The space in the chest between the lungs that contains all the internal organs of the chest, except the lungs
What is an atrium
The superior chamber of the heart that receives blood from the veins and forces it into the ventricles.
What is right atrium
RIght atrium gathers deoxygenated blood returning to the heart from the body
What is Left atrium
left atrium gathers oxygenated blood from the lungs
What are Ventricles
The inferior chambers of the heart that receives blood from its corresponsing atrium and in turn forces blood into the arteries
What is blood
Fluid that circulates in the heart, arteries and veins which carries nutrients and oxygen to the body and also rids the body of waste products. Three functions
1) Transportation
2)Regulation
3)Protection
What are blood vessels
Network of hollow tubes that circulates the blood throughout the body
What are Arteries
Vessels that carry blood away from the heart
What are veins
Vessels that carry blood to the heart
What are Arterioles
Small terminal branches of the artery, which end in capillaries
