Warts

Caused by many different types of HPV and can occur on skin mucous membranes and other epithelia.



Most are benign, but HPV types 16 and 18 lead to squamous malignancy.



Spread by direct contact.

What does the classical genital wart of HPV look like?

Cauliflower like papule or nodule appearing on the glans penis the vulva or the perianal region.



Velvety and white lesion.



Mothers with genital HPV can transmit laryngeal warts to the infant by aspiration during delivery.

How are warts diagnosed?

By clinical picture.


Acetowhitening can be helpful in visualizing mucosal lesions.



Long latency.



With children sometimes acquiring HPV at Birth and not manifesting anything until years later.

Treatment for warts

Genital warts treated locally with cryotherapy podophyllum Tri chloro acetic acid imiquimod or 5-fu.



Cervical warts must be monitored psychologically and histologically for evidence of malignancy.
