Start pretrip: front light check: |
Tester will direct light check: Clearance lights (turn on your headlights) Hazards (4 way flashers) Left turn signal Right turn signal Headlights high and low beam Tell tester you have red and yellow loading lights with a stop paddle and crossing arm. The test will be conducted the same in the rear. Tell the tester about your loading lights again for the rear. |

After your lights and 8 way light system check, what will you do next? |
Pump the brakes until the air supply reads below 90 psi |

What do you point out next as the tester prepared to board the bus? |
Point out the step light in the stairs by the doors. Keep your headlights on so they stay on. |

Air brake test step 1 |
Turn off engine release parking brake hold the service brakes for one minute see that the air gauge doesn't drop more than 3 psi per minute |

Air brake test step 2 |
Repeatedly step on brake pedal to deplete air supply until your alarms come on at 60 or above psi. Tell tester when the lights and buzzer come on |

Air brake test step 3 |
continue pressing the brake pedal repeatedly until the parking brake sets or pops out at approximately 40 psi. Tell tester when parking brake sets |

What is the normal air pressure range for your air supply? |
Between 120 and 140 psi |

What is your safety start? |
Parking brake set, transmission in neutral, put your foot on the brake pedal, start your engine. Tell the tester when your abs light turns on and off. Build air pressure to between 120 and 140 psi |

Clean and adjusted with no damage Bracket not adjusted and securely mounted with no loose fittings Windshield is clean with nothing impairing vision, no stickers, decals, obstructions or damage to glass, windshield wiper fluid working properly |

What is the parking brake tug test? |
With the parking brake applied, put the bus in low great and try to drive forward gently. The parking brake should hold the bus and tell the tester that it does. |

What is the service brake test? |
Release the parking brake, drive forward at 5 miles an hour and slam on the brakes. Tell the tester the bus does not pull to either side. |

How do you tell the tester what each gauge is reading? |
(say the gauge your looking at) at normal operating range and no warning lights or buzzers. Repeat the operating range for the air tanks again. Fuel tank you say is above half a tank at X level. |

Open hatch holding emergency equipment. TELL THE TESTER EACH THING BELOW Fire extinguisher security mounted and properly charged, first aid kit securely mounted and sealed, body fluid kit securely mounted and sealed, 3 reflective triangles, OPEN THE BOX, securely mounted and secure. |

Tell Tester each one as you do it
Check the service door for damage and smooth operation
Entry rails are secure and undamaged
Steps are clear from worn tread, damage and debris Aisles are clear of obstruction and free of damage, tread isn't loose Seat frames are secured to the floor
Seat cushions are secure to the frame |

Talk about and Demonstrate one emergency exit door, opens and closes securely with no damage and buzzer operates normally. Talk about the other emergency exits and explain emergency hatch function |

Outside check on the front? |
Identify the lights and their use. Remember yellow loading lights and red loading lights!! Clearance lights are red on rear and Amber everywhere else. Tell the tester that the school bus banner is securely affixed and undamaged.
Touch and check mirrors as you talk about them, not cracked or broken add securely mounted.
Windshield wiper arms are secure and not cracked or damaged
Crossing arm securely mounted and extends fully with no lose fittings or damage. Pull out the arm! |

Outside check left side before front tire? |
Check the stop paddle. Tell the tester is securely mounted and extends fully with the proper light activation. Check for loose fittings and damage. Pull on stop paddle! Open and close circuit breaker door. Indicate there is no damage and it opens and closes securely. As you go down the bus, you will check all other compartment doors and verify the hinges are not damaged and the doors work properly and latch securely. Amber Reflectors are clean, not missing or broken and red reflectors are on the rear only Reflective tape securely affixed to the vehicles Air drain valve works properly, pull on the white tab or wire, ensure that no oil or water comes out, and tell the tester this |
