1775

Marine Corp created on 10 Nov 1775 in Philadelphia at Tun Tavern. 2 Battalions commanded by Captain Samuel Nicholas, who is considered the first Commandant of the Marine Corp. In 1834, Marines fell under the DON. Present Structure amended in 1952.

1868

USMC Adopted the emblem of Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. BGEN Jacob Zeilin, 7th Commandant Modified the British Marine Emblem. Globe and Anchor signify worldwide service and sea traditions. Eagle signifies the Nation itself.

Belleau Wood

One of Greatest Battles at Belleau Wood, France. Marines Crush German offensive that threatened Paris. French named the area the Wood of the Brigade of Marines. Germans called the Marines "STORM TROOPS". Highest rating of an enemy on the German Scale. Germans called the Marines, "TEUFELHUNDEN" or "DEVIL DOGS".

Battle of Iwo Jima

On 19 Feb 1945, Marines landed in Iwo Jima in the largest all-Marine Battle in History. Also, the bloodiest Battle. USMC suffered over 23,300 Caualties. Adm Chester Nimitz said. "Among the Americans who served on Iwo Island, uncommon valor was a common virtue."

Battle of the Chosin

Nov 1950, in North Korea, Marines were cut off by Chinese Communist Forces. Facing a 10 Division force, Marines smashed 7 divisions on their march to the Chosin Reservior. Marines were able to evacuate wounded and dead, and maintained integrity.

Weapons Safety rule

Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.
Never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot.
Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
Keep weapon on safe until you are ready to fire.

4 weapons conditions

Condition 1. Magazine inserted, round in chamber, slide forward, hammer in the forward position and decocking/safety lever is on. Condition 2. Does not apply to the M9 Pistol. Condition 3. The chamber is empty, a magazine is inserted, the slide is forward, and the safety is on.
Condition 4. Magazine removed, the chamber is empty, the slide is forward, and the safety is on.
