Slander

Make false and damaging statement about someone.



Ex. She regarded his comment as a slander on her good reputation.



Her statement was not meant to slander anybody – it's just descriptive.



Do some research before you engage in slander.

Downplay

to make something seem less important or less bad than it really is.

Ex. The government has been trying to downplay the crisis.

Digress

to move away from the main subject you are writing or talking about and to write or talk about something else
