What are the properties of an ionic substance?
Crystalline Solid, High melting and Boiling Points
What are the properties of a molecular substance?
1. Gases, Liquids or Solids2. Low melting and boiling points
What is a covalent bond and what elements take part in a covalent bond?
Elements that form a bond by sharing electrons between non metals
What is an ionic bond and what elements take part in a ionic bond?
Elements forming bond that transfers from metal to nonmetal.
What is electronegativity and what does it have to do with bonding?
tendency of an atom to attract valence electrons. High, holds onto electrons. Low, gives away.
What is a metallic bond?
It is the sharing of electrons amongst positive ions.
What makes a metal attract electricity?
Electrons are gained by nonmetals in the process.
What is the difference between a single, double, and triple bond in regards to length and strength?
Triple are stronger and shorter than double or single bonds.
What does it mean to be polar and nonpolar?
Nonpolar covalent bond -bonding electrons are shared equally by the bonded atoms. Polar covalent bond –bonded atoms do NOT share electrons equally.
