11 Cards in this Set

  • Front
  • Back

internal oblique

Origin: Linea alba (coursing upward to join into thecostal margins and xiphoid)

Insertion: Iliac crest

Innervation: T5-12 VentralRami.

Action:

-Trunk flexion;

-Lateral trunk flexion to the same side;

-Rotates the trunk to the same side

External oblique

Origin: Outerportion of the ribs 5-8.

Insertion: Lineaalba

Innervation: T5-12ventral Rami.

Action:

-Trunk flexion

-Lateral trunk flexion toward the opposite side.

-Rotates the trunk to the opposite side

Rectus Abdominis

Origin: Cartilageof 5,6,7 ribs, xiphoid process. Insertion: Pubiccrest and symphysis

Innervation: T5-12 ventral Rami.

Action:

-Right and left rectus abdominis actingtogether flex the spine.

-Right side of the rectus also doeslateral flexion to the right; the left, left.

-Becauseit runs fairly vertical it does not have a line of pull to allow any rotation.

Quadratus Lumborum

Origin: Transverseprocesses of the upper four lumbar vertebrae.

Insertion:Iliac Crest

Innervation: Lumbarplexus (L1,2,3).

Action:

-Thismuscle stabilizes the pelvis and the lumbar spine.

-It “hikes” the pelvis on the same side.

-Whenthe lower extremity is fixed, it lateral flexes the trunk to the same side

-When trunk is severely rotated it can cause rotation just to neutral.

Superficial Back Group

Itcontains the trapezius and latissimus dorsi.

what are the middlelayer of muscles of the back

Spinalis group

Longissimus group

Iliocostalis group

2nd order of middle layer back muscles

Origin & Insertion: Laterally to medial on the trunk. They attach laterally into the ribs and insert into the spinous processes and the sacrum/pelvis.

Innervation: Dorsal Rami of spinal nerves T5-12.

Action:

-Extend.

-Rotate to same side.

-Laterally flex to the same side.

Deepmuscles of the back

Semispinalis

Multifidis

Rotatores

2nd order of deep muscles of the back

Origin & insertion:

-Medial to lateral as you travelinferiorly down the spine.

-From the spinous processes to the transverseprocesses.

Innervation: Dorsal Rami of the spinal nerves T5-12

Action:

-Extend the spine.

-Bend same side

-The erector spinaegroup and the deepest grouprotate same side.

Quiet breathing muscles
