prime

A number that has only one factor pair. That pair is the number 1 and itself. Example 5 is prime - factor pair 1 and 5.

square number

This type of number has a factor pair that is a double. You can make a square array out of this number of tiles. Examples 4 and 9 are square numbers.

product

This is what you call the answer to a multiplication problem. Example 12 is the product of 6 times 2.

composite

A number that has more than one factor pair. A number that is not prime is composite. example 6 is composite - factor pairs 1, 6 and 2, 3

factor

This is a number that goes evenly into another number. It pairs up with another number to make a factor pair. Example 3 is a factor of 6 and 4 is a factor of 8.

factor pair

This is a set of two (2) numbers that when mulitplied give you the product of the number you started with. Example (3, 2) is a factor pair for 6. (1, 6) is also a factor pair for 6.

multiple

This is a number or set of numbers you get when you skip count by a certain number. Example, even numbers are multiples of 2 = 2, 4, 6, 8

sum

This is what you call the answer to an addition problem. Example 15 is the sum of 10 plus 5.

difference

This is what you call the answer to a subtraction problem. For example 7 is the difference between 12 and 5.
