Fredrick Norton Freeman, Arthur Chase and Egbert Phelps begin planning the Theta Chi Society
April 10th, 1856
Theta Chi Society organized at 9 pm in Old South Barracks, Norwich University, Norwich, Vermont. Freeman and Chase mutually took prescribed oaths, they are the founding fathers. Chase was elected first president, Freeman first secretary

Howard R. Alter, Jr., receives the Gold Medal from the National Interfraternity Conference. The Gold Medal is the highest award in the interfraternity world. Brother Alter becomes the third Theta Chi alumnus to receive the Gold Medal, joining George Chapman, Omega (1968) and Earl D. "Dusty" Rhodes, Delta (1971)
