What is the role of the Crown?
|
The Crown is the Queen's representative, appointed on recommendation by the Head of Government (Governor/-General).
In Victorian Parliament the Crown will be the Governor, and in Commonwealth Parliament the Crown will be the Governor-General. The role of the Crown is to give formal approval for a bill to become a law. The bill with then be known as an Act of Parliament. |

-76 senators; 12 from each of the six states and, since 1995, two from each territory -Population of state or territory makes no difference to number of senators -State senators serve six year terms and territory senators serve three year terms -Shares power to make laws with Lower House -Role is to ensure that laws are properly representative of the majority of the Australian public, and to scutinise legislation and make sure it fully benefits society |

-40 seats; 5 representatives from each of the eight regions (five metropolitan and three rural) -Role is to review proposed bills from Legislative Assembly and to represent the interests of the majority of rural Victoria |
