James 1:2-8

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire wanting nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

1 Peter 1:6-7

Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. [Ref scripture to James 1:2-3]

6 Perfect things in James

A. Perfect work of patience (1:4)

B. Perfect knowledge (Phil 3:13-15)

C. Perfect gifts (1:17)

D. Perfect law of liberty (1:25)

E. Perfect faith by works (2:22)

F. Perfect man by restraint (3:2)

James mentions that patience is perfect (James 1:4)

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire wanting nothing.

There is a perfect knowledge (Phil 3:12-15)

Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

There are perfect gifts (James 1:17)

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

There is a perfect law of liberty (James 1:25)

But those that looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

There is a perfect faith by works (James 2:20-22)

But wilt thou know, o vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

Ephesians 4:14-16

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: from whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto edifying of itself in love. [Ref scripture to James 1:6]

James 1:9-11

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted; but the rich man, in that he is made low, because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

Isaiah 40:6-8

A voice says, "Call out!" Then he answered, "What shall I call out?" All flesh is grass, and all it's loveliness is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, when the breath of the Lord blows upon it; surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever. [Ref scripture James 1:10]

1 Peter 1:24-25

For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower therefore falleth away: but the word of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. [Ref scripture to James 1:10]

John 16:21-23

A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but soon as she is delivered of child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it to you.

John 14:12-15

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall be do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name , that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Romans 8:26-27

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

1 Corinthians 14:14-15

For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and i will sing with the understanding also.

James 1:6

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

Philippians 4:6

Be careful for nothing; in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

James 1:12

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life; which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him

James 1:13-15

Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted of God;" for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man; but every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin, and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err my beloved brethren.

Romans 5:12

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned --- [ref scripture to James 1:15]

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord [ref scripture James 1:15]

There are 3 kinds of death in scripture

1. Physical death - separation of the inner man from the body (James 2:26)

2. Spiritual death - separation from God because of sin (1 Timothy 5:5-6; Matthew 8:22)

3. Eternal death - eternal separation from God because man CHOOSES to remain separated from God in sin. This is called the "2nd death or 2nd separation from God" (Revelation 2:10-11; 21:8)

James 2:26

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

1 Timothy 5:5-6

Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.

Matthew 8:22

And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord suffer me first to go and bury my father. But Jesus said unto him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead."

Revelation 2:10-11

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer; behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. He that hath an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Revelation 21:8

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
