Three types of hair

Primary- guard hairs, or topcoat. They are stiff and smooth. Aid with keeping water out if coat.


Secondary- wool hairs, or undercoat. Soft, thin, wavy. Denser. For warmth.


Tactile- thicker, longer and mostly around face. Grow from the superficial muscle layer and aid in sensation. Cat whiskers are tactile hairs; also, termed vibrissae.
